My Week

So, nothing much going on here. Andre is away in Peoria doing some work for my parents for two weeks (I know, I miss him terribly!). But next week I'm going up there to spend the weekend which I'm looking forward to so much. My friend Heather, whose husbie is also out of town this week, is staying with me and it's great to have company.

I've found that I'm still very tired and especially seem to wear myself out when I go out at night, so I'm trying to limit my nocturnal outings. Very difficult as I hate saying no to and missing out on things in my life! But some nights, I must say the couch is awfully inviting :)

Ice Cream and high heels

Couldn't resist posting this photo of our cutie pie niece in her new dress and 'high-heels' (which she LOVES to show off!). She wore this to her Aunt Carrie's wedding this past weekend and everyone thought she looked like a Neopolitan ice-cream cone! How adorable is she?

Ok, so I'm a little biased :)

Details

So yes, we're expecting...And over the moon about it! We found out I was pregnant the week before July 4th and have been excited and anxious and amazed every since. We are so thankful to the Lord for this blessing and so grateful that everything seems to be going really well so far.

It's all been pretty by the book so far: by 5 weeks I was off my food and by 6 weeks couldn't keep much down. By 7 weeks I couldn't even eat popsicles without throwing them up. I tried everything from ginger ale to crackers but seemed to spend much of the time in the bathroom! Thankfully, there are some wonderful meds out there that enabled me to keep some food down and just this week I've been able to come off them completely and still keep most of my meals in my tummy :)I'm really happy to be off them as they made me so sleepy. Those and work were not a good combination! And when I took them at night I was sometimes asleep by 6 pm, so poor Andre had some lonely evenings! But at least I was able to eat a decent amount of nutrition. And I'm definitely starting to see the light at the end of that (very worthwhile, I might add) tunnel!

I'm 14.5 weeks now, feeling slightly more awake, slightly bigger than usual (wearing maternity pants now!) and slightly more into my food. Yesterday saw us at the Doc again for a monthly check. Everything looked great and we got to hear the baby's heartbeat--best sound in the whole world! It's in the 150s which is somewhere right in the middle (140s usually means boy and 160s usually means girl at this point), so no clues there!

Well, if you're still reading, you now know all there is know about our baby story so far :) Thanks to all my wonderful friends who have been so supportive, in spite of all my neglect of you lately...you've all been so sweet with phone calls and cards and your happiness for us.

Loved Ones

Last week we had a wonderful visit from far away family. My Grandpa (Mum's Dad), who lives in South Africa, is here for 5 weeks, visiting my parents. And with him, came my Mum's oldest sister, Marie, who has just immigrated from Zimbabwe to Wales, where her sons live. They flew into Atlanta and stayed a few days with us, then on Friday Mum drove them up to Peoria. Thanks for visiting Gramps and Aunty Marie...see you in October on your way home!

Good memories from the beach

We've spent the last ten days in Siesta Key, FL with my family. Lots of fun memories and here they are, in no particular order:

And yes, she's a fan of sushi!

Dad took the boys on a deep sea fishing trip. They caught lots of fish which we ate for dinner!

Catching up

Yes, I've neglected the blog dreadfully the last few weeks. We've been busy, but I just haven't got around to recording anything! Mum and Dad were here for Michaela's birthday in the middle of July. Here are some photos at her party...

Two weeks ago my friend Hannah and I hosted a bridal shower for our friend Janna, who got married last week. Unfortunately, I left my camera at home, and so don't have any photos of the wedding. But here are a few from the shower...

And this month I got to spend time with two of my bestest buds! Shannon came down to spend a night a couple of weeks ago and then last week, on my day off, I met Liesl in Dahlonega, GA for a few hours of catching up. She was down in North GA visiting her family and Dahlonega is a good halfway point for us. I did remember to take photos, but unfortunately the lighting was all messed up and you can't see a thing in them! Oh well. Also last week I said good bye to my dear college friend Sarah, who has lived in Atlanta for years, but is now moving back up north. I'll miss you, Sah! Thanks friends for the good times!

That's about it around here. Andre was in Chattanooga this week for a few days and spent some time with his cousin and her husband. Thanks for having him, John and Yuliya. Next Saturday we leave for 10 days at the beach with my family and I CAN'T WAIT! We're both so ready for some time away. Thanks for hosting us Mum and Dad!
