Oma & Opa

Our dear friends Conrad and Myriam were in town on Monday and came to visit us. We haven't seen them since October and so LOVED getting to catch up with them. The kids had a great time with them too (especially since a new box of animal crackers from Trader Joes was involved!). Sophie is usually cautious of new visitors but she warmed up pretty quickly and was especially attached to Conrad.

And they have very graciously let our kiddos call them Oma and Opa (German names for grandparents, as they have European roots)...so special to have them involved in their lives!

17 Months Old

Sophie Joy turned 17 months old this May. At a recent pediatrician visit (for ANOTHER virus!), she weighed in at 17.6 lbs so I'm pleased with that. She lost a  bit in Feb/March due to so many bouts of sickness. April being a month of absolutely NO bugs, was great for her weight gain and she filled out a bit.

She walks pretty fast and really wants to run. Falls and even scrapes don't bother her much and she usually refuses help. She HATES holding hands when out for a walk and pats her chest which means she wants to do it herself.

Daddy has become quite her favorite person and she asks for him as soon as she wakes up in the morning. It being summer here now, I put her in dresses almost every day and she has this funny habit of going to show Daddy her outfit...she toddles up to him and pats her dress and sways! Such a girl.

After bath, she and Jack love to bounce around on his bed, cleverly avoiding their PJs! She loves every minute with him and tonight they were sitting on the couch together and Jack said, "I wuv you, Soph". SO sweet.

Keeping Them Busy...

So. This weekend, I've seen alot of the couch. And my pillow.

After getting back from our impromptu trip to Orlando on Thursday evening, I started feeling really achy and feverish. By Friday morning my throat was terribly painful and my fever was over 101. Things continued this way all weekend. I thought I had caught Sophie's virus and figured it would run it's course.

But this morning I woke up with pink, crusty eyes. Lovely. So I bundled myself off to the doc, only to discover I have tonsillitis and pink eye. Unrelated, but both needing antibiotics. Well, the tonsillitis would explain why I wasn't recovering on my own, even after 5 days!

Let me just say, the silver lining to all this is that I am actually really thankful for the pink eye, as it forced me to go to the doctor! Thinking I had a virus I was convinced they wouldn't be able to do anything and it would be a waste to go. Glad I did, cause adult tonsillitis is NO fun and doesn't resolve easily on it's own. And let me tell you, the descriptions she gave me of my tonsils made sense given the way they feel!

All this to say, although Hubby has been very helpful with the kids, there have been times I needed that pillow, and just had to keep them busy while I hit the couch for a few minutes. Here they are today, doing play dough for the first time together :)

Love their concentration!

And Sophie didn't eat it! Jack kept watch over her which was very helpful.
Please pray they don't catch the pink eye!!

Buzz

I have resisted this for a LONG time! My Hubby and sister finally talked me into it and tonight was the night...

Before shot: yes, it was a big mess back there, long and bushy!

Fascinated with the clippers

Daddy's doing a great job!

Considering what he had to work with...

The boy didn't stop moving!

And was very ready to be done, by the end!

ALL DONE!

He now looks a bit more like his baby photos :)
